Graduated from Fordham University majoring in Business and Economics. Remember going to the Laurelton Theatre for the Saturday matinee for .25 cents & getting the card to see if you got in for free the following week. My family moved to Eastchester in 1958, so I missed going to Jackson or Far Rockaway. , Woolworth's, Bert & Dave's, the Depot, Library, and so many other places and things, I'm struck by how much this place was so important to us because we spent our childhoods there. I lived in Laurelton until the 9th grade and then moved to Rockville Centre. I remember House of Change, Laurelton Movies, The Riveria Italian Restarant, The Bagel Store, The Greasy Spoon Dinner, Sherry's Bakery (I worked there.) So many good memories of my childhood. I was born in Laurelton and lived at 135-02 232nd St. Nothing but great memories about growing up in Laurelton. 156 and JHS 59 and then chose to go to Brooklyn Tech while almost all the rest of my friends went to Andrew Jackson. Lived on 226th St just off Merrick Blvd with my older sister Barbara. I can't spell them anymore, but I remember Howard Gilman, Carolyn Rubin, Paul Gottleib, Todd Sveslosky, Howard Beizer, Marjorie Lesk, Maxine Weinstein, Stuart Leventhal (and his chinchillas), Cecile Cohen, Cheryl Gorlick, Lynn Winston, Gloria Pessirillo, Alex Pupako, Jay Schwartz, Marsha Touger, Alan Krebs, Vinnie Oliveri, Louie Teverini, Toby Volkman, Toby Rosenblatt, Irene Platzblatt, Rona Ganz, Joel Kimmel, Joel Levine, Susan Steinberg, Helen Steinberg, David Diamond, Jerry and Arnold Tranes, Julie Goldstein, Joan and Wendy Wallach, Martin Perlman, Marilyn Feldman, some red-headed kid who liked to throw rocks at people, Zickerman's, Raab's, saxophone lessons with Vince Pendl, orthodontia with Dr. Would love to hear from old friends, will post much more later. I always thought of myself as being from Springfield Gardens but the New York Times (real estate section) shows Laurelton as extending west to Springfield Boulevard. Currently retired in Wellington, FL after spending most of my adult life in Milpitas, CA., a suburb of San Jose. In fact, Joel, Beatrice and I rode in a rumble seat to PS 156 together. It was the best place to grow up in the 50s and 60s, lots of time outdoors, hanging out with great friends and neighbors, barbeques, badminton, comic book exchanges, listening to music and comedy albums together. and I remember when our zone 13 designation first became a zip code of 11413. My best friends at 132 were Laurie Dringus, Barbara Cohen and Susy Schwarz; at 59 I became friends with Annie Defalco, and Lauri Bente (Benveniste), who tragically was killed several years ago. I remember so many things - the diversity of "treats" along Merrick Rd.; walking to jr congregation at the LJC; riding bikes with my friends all over the neighborhood without concern of any danger; the all-day movies for a quarter; Tom's Barber Shop. I have traveled a lot, raised two wonderful sons, and lived in the several parts of the country. He was married, had 2 children and now has 3 grandchildren. My husband and I bought our first home in Laurelton where we lived until we moved to Syosset in 1970. I now live in Teaneck, NJ, have three children and three grandchildren. PS 156, JHS 59, Springfield Gardens HS, Laurelton Jewish Center.the kids..many to even mention. My sister Yvette lives in Fresh Meadows and my brother Louis lives in Syosset. Married to another Laureltonian Elliot Hochman, class of 62. I lived at 224-05 137th Ave the big white house between 224 & 225 St. I used to hang out with Tom Ferrara, Joe Barillari, Ronnie Levine, Marty Blank, John Ventura, Pete Cohen, Mark Fishman, Harvey Krauthamer, Lou Kravitz, Jack Zipper, Eileen Kaye, Rhona Toline, Arlene Goldstein, Marilyn Goldstein, Carol Bernstein and many others. Miss those simple lazy summer days playing handball, stoopball, stickball and softball in the "156" yard. I moved to Laurelton but south of the Belt Parkway in 1964. My good friends were George Parker, Ira Hutner, Andy Calia (who recently died) Paul Gural and Richie Allen amongst others. I now live in Stamford, CT with my wife Rhonda Jacobs and our three boys. What a great website - gave me the desire to want to reach out to everyone I grew up with in Laurelton in the late 50s and very early 60s. 59 and played basketball for Coach Jerry Able and ran track with the second fastest kid Steve Levine. Bell for Spanish and we would just marvel at her chest. I left NY shortly after college and worked for AT&T Laboratories in Texas and Missouri. and hanging at Burt’s Busy Bee on Merrick and Francis Lewis. I have looked through all the names posted on the listing and nobody lives here in Chicago. We always had breakfast at the Laurelton Diner before heading home. I am a retired accountant, currently living in Lake Norman (Cornelius), North Carolina. I've been living in Wellington, Florida for the past two years. I moved to Laurelton in 1961 from Inwood, Manhattan. I have lost contact with most of my friends from my Laurelton years and it would be nice to reconnect. John was a mechanic for the Green Bus Lines in Jamaica, NY. I worked at La Tasca's Pizza on Merrick Road (between 232 and 233) from 1965 to 1971. Every summer the "Center" which was located inside PS 176 on the first floor housed all of us and every week day we played ping pong, pool, kickball, basketball, etc. Many great summers took place there during the day and then in the "cement" park after the Center closed at p.m. I took my two boys (12 and 14) there in the summer of 2005 to show them the three houses I lived in, the schools I went to, and to share my memories of growing up there. We didn't lock the doors on our homes during the 1950s. All the kids would play games in the street till the lights came on: I Declare War, Scully, Ringo Levio, Ghost.
